Why Our Sessions Work
Fact: most companies will say “no.” But because they say they don’t, doesn’t mean they
actually don’t sponsor.
The topic of sponsorship is often clouded by misinformation. This leads many hiring
managers, who are not well informed, to play it safe and say, “We don’t sponsor,” without
really understanding what sponsorship involves.
For this reason, you should understand that “no” is not the end of the conversation. This
is simply your starting point to have a meaningful discussion with your interviewer(s)
about sponsorship.
The issue that you face is one of misinformation. Fortunately, this presents an
opportunity, as you can equip yourself with the knowledge to effectively communicate
with potential employers about sponsorship in a way that could shift their perspective.
A Real-Life Example
One of our clients, Paula, an international student from Ecuador, was invited to interview at a hedge fund in Fort Lauderdale. Before the interview, she met with one of our HR Sponsorship Experts to learn how to discuss her need for a work visa beyond OPT.
After excelling in the interview, the hiring manager asked, "I can't help but notice you have an international background. Do you need sponsorship?"
Paula confidently delivered her prepared answer, but the manager responded, "Sorry, we don’t sponsor." Ready for this, Paula asked the right questions to uncover the real issue: the cost of the process and the misconception that the company would be stuck with her during the immigration process.
She skillfully addressed these concerns, and the hiring manager agreed to discuss sponsorship with his team.
Fast forward to today—Paula is happily employed by the hedge fund and has just received her green card, living her American dream.
